Adopt Kibuli Project

On August 26, 2023, the Rotary Club of Kampala Kibuli under the leadership of Hope Creator President Rhemie Kiggundu, launched its new five-year Project dubbed Adopt Kibuli Project.

Under the new project, a total of 1,500 youth in the slums of Kibuli in Kampala, are set to acquire vocational skills for self-employment and economic empowerment.

According to the adopt Kibuli project, the programme is aimed at reducing unemployment among the youth in Kibuli community.

Rotarian Musa Ntamba, the project Manager adopt Kibuli explained that: “We will provide 1,500 youth with marketable vocational skills and tool kits for self-employment and job creation by the end of 2027. Besides that, the Club will also equip 1,500 youth with entrepreneurship and life skills as an integral part of their livelihoods”.

The five-year program will focus on education and literacy as a component to improve vocational skills through institutionalized training and apprenticeship skills.

The rotary club of Kampala Kibuli feels there is a lot that needs to be done to better the communities of Kibuli, focusing on promoting livelihood development.

This includes supporting health-related initiatives such as access to Adolescent Sexual Reproductive Health services, response to gender-based violence and improving access to income through generating activities.

The president of the rotary club of Kampala Kibuli, Rhemie Kiggundu stated that during the implementation of the five-year development programme, the Club’s emphasis will be on uplifting the boy child with skills.

“We want to create hope for our young people because getting a degree does not guarantee a job. Anyone reductant is a threat to each one of us. Youth need hands-on skills such as plumbing, soap making and electrical to prosper,” explained President Kiggundu.

To fully implement the project, the Club embarked on a needs assessment to ascertain what exactly is more helpful for Kibuli community.
